| Ikegami started Jazz and Rock drum at the age of 8. It was while
leading his own rock band that he encountered one classic CD that totally changed
his life.
On graduation from the high school, he started percussion and marimba.
Then he entered Music Dept. of Osaka Kyoiku University to start from very beginning
as classic percussionist. While studying there, he went to Conservatoire National
Superieur de Musique de Paris and Conservatoire de Paris. He won the best prize
in the 46th International Music-Competition of the ARD. His brilliant achievement
was astonishingly speedy; it was just only some years later since he started the
percussion lesson. Then he studied in Karlsruher Music University and graduated
with “Auszeichnung”. After playing in various venues in Europe, he moved to Fuji
Kawaguchiko-cho, Japan. And as resident-musician, his activity is always watched
with keen interest.
In April 2004, his recital “Performance!!” made a big success with a full audience.
In June, he appeared as soloist in the Regular Concert of Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony
Orchestra with Maestro Yutaka Sado and played Maki Ishi’s “Afro-concerto”.
While challenging limitless or borderless activity such as performing with dance
and paintings, he is also highly reputed as authentic classical percussionist.
His sophisticated color sense of tune will overwhelms not only the audibility
but also visual.
His mallet technique, both delicate and dynamic, attracts the audience.
